The two most enigmatic women in the Hindi film industry Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Katrina Kaif have supposedly turned a complete tumble toss as far as choosing roles are concerned.
It is reported that both the actresses have opted for roles which are modern versions of the ladies from the Indian Epics ‘Ramayan’ and ‘Mahabharata.’ The two ladies are to be seen in roles which they have never been seen before.
Ash for example has been cast in the film ‘Raavan’ in a different version of the most worshipped and pious Sita even though her name is not Sita in the film. However the modern twist to the tale is that her character is attracted to the Raavan like character played by hubby Abhishek inthe film. Her husband’s role in the film is played by a very well known face amongst art movie lovers Vikram.
Katrina on the other hand plays a politician in the film ‘Rajneeti’ where her character is projected differently and it is not clear as to whose character she plays in the film which is based on the ‘Mahabharata’ albeit with a twist. The modern take on this gigantic political drama has been earlier tried in a film called ‘Kalyug’ which had great stars like Rekha and Shashi Kapoor as the main protagonists. ‘Rajneeti’ is a film by Prakash Jha who has ventured into the epic culture where not many directors want to tread due to the intricacies involved in such projects.
The most enigmatic representation of these classics were on television a few years ago with a marathon success rate. What remains to be seen is how the modern version is accepted!
