‘Paa’s heroine Vidya Balan says she will soon be seen in a completely different avatar in Vishal Bharadwaj`s forthcoming movie ‘Ishqiya’. In her upcoming dark drama, she plays a conniving, scheming woman.
While interacting with the media the otherwise innocent looking actress said that in this movie she is someone who is unapologetic about her own choices.
In the film, Vidya sports a de-glamorized look and mouths expletives. She terms her character as that of India’s Rambha, Durga or Kali.
She is someone who is dressed from top to toe but oozes sensuality, she adds. Earlier, we have seen her in films like ‘Parineeta’, ‘Heyy Babyy’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ and ‘Kismat Konnection’.
Set in eastern Uttar Pradesh, ‘Ishqiya’ is a tale of romance between individuals caught in a web of crime, suspense, passion and deceit.
Made by first time director Abhishek Chaubey and produced by Bharadwaj, the film also stars Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles.
The actress is a big fan of Bhardwaj who is known for credibility and thus owns a brand. On the other hand, Vidya plays Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter in Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s ‘Chenaab Gandhi’. What a complete reversal of role from that of Amitabh’s mother in ‘Paa’ to his daughter in ‘Chenab Gandhi’! Regarding the role reversal, she says that it’s not a conscious decision. “ It`s just that I`m offered a lot of exciting work and I`ve tried to pick and choose different things to keep it very exciting for me.”
